No matter your age or whether you are a woman or a man, surely you are interested in knowing how to grow your hair fast? Even if there is no miracle solution for “express” growth, we will give you many tips in this article to make your hair grow faster, while making it more beautiful!
How does hair grow?
The hair grows by its root: it comes out of its papilla (located at the bottom of the follicle), where it receives blood rich in nutrients allowing it to grow. Then, the hair undergoes a cycle of three phases:
growth (or anagen phase), during which the hair grows thanks to a continuous supply of nutrients from the root to the matrix which allows cell multiplication. This phase determines the length of the hair and lasts from several months to several years;
the rest (or catagen phase), where there is no more cell multiplication, the production of hair fiber ceases. It lasts from three weeks to a few months;
the expulsion (or telogen phase), where the hair that no longer grows remains attached to the scalp for two to four months before falling out at the end of its life and thus giving way to a new hair in formation.
How fast does hair grow?
There is no standard answer to this question because the speed of hair growth depends on several factors such as genetics (which also gives specific characteristics to hair including color and thickness), age, gender, location on the scalp and even exogenous factors such as diet, sun exposure and hair care.
On average, hair grows 0.3 to 0.4 millimeters per day, or about 1 cm per month, but it can go from 0.8 to 1.5 cm per month.
The lifespan of a hair (including the three phases described above) is on average three years for men and about four and a half years for women. We naturally lose between 45 and 60 hairs per day, but this is not visible when there is a balance between regrowth and falls.
How to grow your hair fast?
There is no miracle solution to make you gain several centimeters in a minimum of time, but here are some actions to accelerate growth and above all, to restore quality to your hair.
Adapt your diet
The quality of the hair and a good growth are the benefits of a balanced diet, in fact, it is the best way to provide the nutrients essential to their growth.
Eat protein -rich foods : poultry, fish, eggs, legumes. They provide the amino acids necessary for the formation of keratin, which is the main constituent of hair.
Since the membranes of all our cells are partly composed oflipids, also consume foods that are sources of quality unsaturated fatty acids: virgin vegetable oils, fruits and oilseeds (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, chia, etc.), avocado and fatty fish.
Vitamins and minerals are also necessary for hair growth and strengthening. A sufficient, varied and balanced diet will provide you with vitamins A, C and group B. As for minerals, it is interesting to have interesting contributions of zinc and magnesium. For this, you can eat bananas, cocoa, seafood (including oysters and shrimp), soy and its derivatives, as well as whole grains. Don’t forget to consume natural sources of iron including red meats, legumes, eggs and green vegetables.
A healthy scalp is the key to good hair growth. Unfortunately, certain factors such as pollution, excessive sun and the use of unsuitable or too aggressive products for your hair can gradually damage it. Result: the hair grows more slowly and its appearance is not optimal.
Choose a shampoo and conditioner suited to your needs: dry or oily hair, colored hair, long or short hair, damaged ends… and rinse it well after each wash!
Exfoliate the scalp: this type of product removes residues of shampoo or styling products and gets rid of devitalized cells. To apply it, you have to massage the product for three to five minutes on the wet skull, then it is necessary well the hair. This gesture is to be repeated only once or twice a month.
Daily washing tends to damage the scalp and the hair fiber, this makes the lengths look too dry (even split ends) and can affect hair growth. Space the shampoos , even if your hair is rather greasy.
Have your tips trimmed regularly. Although this gesture will not really stimulate hair growth since the growth is done by the root, a scissor cut of a few centimeters every three months gives the lengths a healthier appearance. Moreover, there is no need to have your ends cut on a full moon night, it’s a nice received idea!
Finally, avoid excessive brushing and limit too aggressive care (hair dryer too hot, straighteners and curlers). All these factors can weaken your hair and make it brittle or with an “electric” appearance.
Enjoy a scalp massage
It is well known that massage stimulates blood circulation which brings more oxygen to the tissues, and the scalp is no exception. Gently massaging the scalp with your fingertips stimulates blood flow and oxygenation of the scalp, which stimulates hair growth.
For this massage, make small circular movements starting at the neck, going towards the forehead, then from the ears to the top of the skull.
It is ideal to massage the scalp daily, on average two to three minutes a day. If you forget to do this, you can make up for it with a 5-minute massage two or three times a week.
