Many women believe that having long, curved eyelashes depends exclusively on the mascara they wear. Certainly, makeup helps to sublimate the look. But to have beautiful eyelashes, they must above all be healthy. In addition to giving a beautiful look, the eyelashes serve as a rampart for the eyes, a double reason to give them special attention.
7 tips to get longer eyelashes
Waterproof mascara? Not every day!
Certainly, water-resistant mascaras are very practical since they ensure impeccable hold whatever the ordeals we go through during the day. However, they are not without consequences for the beauty of our eyelashes. Indeed, their composition tends to dry out the eyelashes enormously and make them very fragile. In addition, waterproof mascara is generally more difficult to remove, which often affects the eyelashes and causes them to fall out. It is therefore advisable to have a normal mascara and a waterproof mascara in your makeup bag. Only use it in the event of rain or in very hot weather if you tend to sweat a lot.
Remove your makeup every night without exception
A rule of thumb: never sleep with mascara (or makeup in general). Make-up products prevent eyelashes from breathing and hinder their regrowth during the night. Result: your eyelashes become brittle and fall out much faster. In addition, mascara residue can be extremely harmful to your eyes if it accumulates day after day, as the bad experience of a netizen in 2018 showed. In short, good makeup removal hygiene before bedtime is essential for the health of your eyelashes. Don’t deviate from it. Don’t rub your eyes too hard
Do you have the habit of rubbing your eyes intensively in the morning to wake you up or when your eyes are itchy? If this gesture can be pleasant, it is anything but advisable for your eyelashes. Indeed, the latter can be torn off, after which it will take them a long time to grow back. If your eye is really itchy, massage your eyelids while staying as far away from your eyelashes as possible.
Feed them oil
Castor or almond oil contain nourishing properties that can make your eyelashes longer, stronger and fuller. Opt for pure, cold-pressed oil and apply it with a clean mascara brush or eyebrow brush. Make sure the oil doesn’t end up in your eyes. Fuller, stronger lashes are yours!
Use a serum
You don’t believe in miracle formulas? Yet eyelash serums actually make a difference: they stimulate eyelash growth and increase their curl. Apply a small dose to your upper and lower lashes every morning and evening for several weeks until the desired result.
Apply your mascara correctly
Did you know? The way you apply your mascara creates a different effect depending on the result you want to achieve:
To lengthen the eyelashes: deposit the mascara brush at the base of the eyelashes, then go upwards. Then, start again at the level of the eyelashes and brush your hairs going from left to right (in zig zag) towards the tip of the eyelashes. This method gives them volume and separates them perfectly for a more homogeneous result. Guaranteed XXL effect.
To curl the eyelashes: if you have straight eyelashes, use an eyelash curler before applying your mascara. Pinch your eyelashes at the root using the device for a few seconds, then release. For a more natural result, opt for an eyelash curler with a small rounded rubber pad.
To give volume to the eyelashes: place the brush of your mascara at the base of the eyelashes and go up by performing a rotational movement of the brush.
Feel free to apply a second coat for a “wow” effect . Be careful though, don’t wait until your mascara has completely dried to do this. Also avoid plunging the brush back into the tube between each coat. It’s not good for your mascara, or your eyes. We explain why here .
